A BRIEF HISTORY OF

JESUS THE HEALER FILIPINO CHURCH

Hi, I am Manny P. Palomares and my wife Libby. We are the Founders and Senior Pastors of this church, Jesus the Healer Filipino Church, Inc. and we are glad to share with everyone its brief background.

One Saturday afternoon in the fall of 1987, a small circle of brothers and sisters were gathered in a house in jersey City, NJ holding Bible Study . At closing, the host and birthday celebrant asked me to pray for him, so we all stood up holding each other’s hand as a chain. At the close of the short prayer, I laid hand on him as was customary to us. Suddenly, he was slain in the spirit and fell. It was his first experience but it was usual to the rest of us. To calm down our host who still looked very much amazed, I told him what he experienced was normal to anyone touched by the Holy Spirit. Before we dispersed, everybody agreed with his invitation to hold Bible Study every week in their house. It was the start of our weekly Bible study gathering that grew in attendance every week. Before the end of that year 1987, we scouted for a larger meeting place as the house could no longer accommodate our increasing number!

Around the middle of January, 1988 we rented the Parish Hall of St John’s Episcopal Church near Jersey City Medical Center. We continued to meet there until the end of 1990 while our attendance continued to multiply. God blessed us continually until our finances increased enabling us to buy a residential building used by a Korean Christian Congregation, along Kennedy Blvd., corner of Montgomery Street. Its street level basement was small but good enough to fit all of us at the time. We named our group “Live For Jesus Fellowship”. The upper floors of this 3-level building served as Church Office, Library and a rest space in the attic. My wife and I would stay there overnight after late Friday evenings of Bible study. It was in this location also where we received God’s message of approval to go on with the ministry, for it pleased Him the way “we loved each other, further assuring us that ‘barrels and barrels’ of blessing shall follow our lives.” True enough, in the years following, all of us experienced unprecedented prosperity none of us had, experienced before. Almost everyone got a job; bought a house; and visited our relatives back in the Philippines.

In 1999, God led us to buy a regular church building a mile north of the same J.F. Kennedy Blvd, at the corner of Sherman Pl. We churched in this place renaming our Fellowship into “Jesus The Healer Filipino Church, Inc. After accomplishing all paperwork, registrations, etc., we received our 501© (3) from the IRS. For 16 years, we stayed and grew up as a Filipino Church in Jersey City where a sizeable number of Filipinos reside and some became members of the church. In 2012, we acquired an old Masonic Temple in the suburbs, at 30 Mountainview Blvd., Wayne, NJ 07470. We rehabilitated it with the purchase price of the Sherman Pl Church making it look like entirely new. After completion, we moved in on Mother’s Day of 2015. There we continued serving the Lord concentrating more on the Word of God than any other activities. Shortly, some of our members moved to follow their jobs in Texas, and the Lord also gave us a place to build a church for them there. It sits on almost a 1.6-acre lot located at 415 Atascocita Rd., Humble, TX . Praise God! It is a beautiful property!
